Arsenal vs Chelsea Preview:
Arsenal welcome Chelsea to Emirates stadium on Sunday. It promises to be a enthralling clash where both sides would want a win to close on top 4.
London Derby between these two sides could shape the way for top four. It is a six pointer clash and a loss especially for Arsenal could end their pursuit of top 4. The gap between both the teams stands at 8 points and Arsenal occupy 11th position in the table. They come into this match on the back of encouraging display against Bournemouth. Mikel Arteta showcased the philosophy he wants Arsenal to follow but he will be cautious of their position in the table. Chelsea on the other hand fell to a embarrassing defeat to Southampton. Arteta’s team come into this with only one win since October 6th whereas Chelsea have lost 5 out of last 7 matches. Lampard will be aware of gap between 4th and side at 11th and a loss for Chelsea could slip them out of top 4.
The two London rivals always produce exciting encounters and we expect nothing less from this. Chelsea’s last win at Emirates goes back to January 2016. The last encounter between these sides was the Europa League final which Chelsea comprehensively won by 4-1 in a pivotal clash for Arsenal. It cost them a Champions League place and they will be keen to avenge that defeat.
For Chelsea, Kovacic is expected to return back after suspension for multiple bookings. James had an ankle injury for the Southampton game and it is still unsure on whether he would be fit for this game. Loftus Cheek and Van Ginkel remain long term absentees.(Football London).
Arsenal on the other hand have long term absentee in Tierney who suffered a shoulder injury. Bellerin is back training but it is unsure whether he would be involved. Martinelli missed the last match due to a tight hamstring but could be fit for the Chelsea clash. (Football London)
Expected Line Up:
Lampard would have to decide the shape he would want to go with against Arsenal. Arteta would want to keep the same going from the encouraging display against Bournemouth.
Chelsea ( 3-4-3): Kepa Zouma Rudiger Tomori Azpilicuetta Jorginho Kovacic Alonso Willian Mount Abraham
Arsenal (4-2-3-1): Leno Maitland Niles Luiz Sokratis Saka Xhaka Torreira Pepe Ozil Aubameyang Lacazette
Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea
Both teams come into this fixture with bad form and managers will throw caution especially at defensive side of the game. Defensively, both sides are struggling and i cannot see anyone capable of keeping a clean sheet. Arsenal attack is still one of the best in the league and Chelsea would need to be on top of their game to stiffle it. Chelsea will be boosted by comeback of Kovacic and would look to win the midfield battle to gain supremacy over their London rivals. But with 2 day rest and worrying form of both the sides, i can see this match ending in a draw which is not a bad result for both the sides.
