Tournament: Premier League
Fixture: Wolves vs Chelsea Preview
Date/Time: 14th September at 15:00 GMT and 19:30 IST
Arena: Molineux Stadium
Wolves come into this being winless in their Premier League season with three draws and one loss. Chelsea on the other hand are not doing much good either with one win from first four matches.
So lets start with Wolves vs Chelsea Preview:
They got some top quality players on their day. Once upon a time no one would bother to predict this match. Results were obvious but now Wolves might have a upper hand. With a draw and a win against Chelsea last season, they got nothing to fear. Wolves as expected will play on a counter against Chelsea on Saturday. After losing to Everton, this match becomes more important for Nuno and his side. Home form is a must and Wolves would want to get started at Molineux with a victory. Nuno has got concerns when his side comes up against bottom half teams but he will relish there chances against top sides like Chelsea.
Some injury concerns for Wolves are in form of Saiss(Credits:101 Great Goals) whereas Doherty will be fit for this match.
I think they will line up in their traditional 3-5-2 formation:
I might not be surprised if they play Traore on the right or left to expose Chelsea fullbacks.
Now lets come towards Chelsea. As a fan myself of Chelsea it was a huge low on the last gameweek. There is no excuse for Chelsea to lose a 2-0 lead against Sheffield United. Till now Chelsea have not looked like winning any game except the Liverpool one which is a major concern. Conceding 9 goals in 4 games does not bode well for future. Lampard is a brave and exciting coach but we need to remember he’s still a young coach. They will have big low points this year but Lampard has to learn it quickly. Chelsea now have two of the worst matches you need at this time with Wolves away and then Liverpool home. Somehow Chelsea have to find three points from somewhere and this might be the match.
Chelsea have major injury concerns in form of Loftus cheek who is long term absentee along with Hudson Odoi and James might return in September end. Rudiger could be back which is a huge bonus. Injuries sustained by Emerson and Kovacic on international duty are big headache for Lampard.
Lampard would need to go 4-3-3 in my opinion with Jorginho, Kovacic and Kante but Kovacic injury might make him go with 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 with Mount:
Interesting Stats( Credits: 11 vs 11)
- If Wolves beat Chelsea on Saturday, it will be the first time since 22 December 1973 that they would have consecutive wins over Chelsea at home. This feat was achieved when both were in League Division one and 2 years after Chelsea got beat 7-1 by Wolves at away.
- Last time Wolves kept a clean sheet against Chelsea was on 5th January 2011.
- Only Lampard is the Chelsea player who was part of the squad which beat Wolves in 2012 in Premier League after which which they faced last season.
Chelsea 1-1 Wolves
Wolves 2-1 Chelsea
Wolves 0-2 Chelsea ( FA Cup)
Chelsea 6-0 Wolves ( League Cup)
Wolves 2-1 Chelsea
Unfortunately for Chelsea i can’t see them winning this one. They will dominate it for large parts but the way Chelsea have defended in the League, i can see Wolves nicking 2 goals on the counter. As i said this is the last side Chelsea wanted to face at this stage. Wolves are a side with compact defence and will not allow Chelsea any space and with Jiminez on the counter, i can’t see Chelsea outscoring them.
